Mike Trout and his Los Angeles Angels are starting to find their grove, getting back to the .500 mark on Tuesday and will look to continue their mastery of the Toronto Blue Jays when they play the third of four games on Wednesday. The Angels were held under four runs for the first time since June 9th, but received a masterful performance from Tyler Skaggs in the 3-1 victory to improve to 5-0 versus the Blue Jays in their 2019 season series. Skaggs allowed a solo homer among three hits in evening his record at 6-6 to move the Angels three back of the second AL Wild Card spot. Kole Calhoun and Brian Goodwin homered for the Angels on Tuesday after they smacked four home runs in a 10-5 victory in the series opener. Last night’s win improve L.A. to 17-6 in their last 23 games at Rogers Centre. The Angels have won six of their last eight overall to return to .500 for the first time since they were 8-8, and they’ll turn to another lefty on Wednesday in Andrew Heaney who will take on the struggling Aaron Sanchez. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. provided all of the offense for Toronto on Tuesday with a home run in the fourth – his fourth in the last nine games. The Blue Jays have dropped seven of their last 10 and are just 12-24 at home. Toronto placed 1B Justin Smoak (quad) and RHP Edwin Jackson (back) on the 10-day injured list on Monday.
Pitchers: Angels – Andrew Heaney (0-1, 4.57 ERA) | Blue Jays – Aaron Sanchez (3-8, 5.04)
The Angels are 2-2 in Heaney’s four starts this season, but the lefty is still looking for his first victory of 2019 after going 9-10 in 2018. He received a no-decision last time out despite allowing just one run and two hits over five innings Friday at Tampa Bay. He has 30 strikeouts in 21.2 innings while holding opponents to a .185 average on the season, but has surrendered six home runs. Heaney has faced the Blue Jays twice in his career, getting bombed in his first one in 2015, but allowing one run in seven innings last season. Both of those meetings were in Anaheim.

Sanchez has had a dreadful season and the Blue Jays are just 1-8 in his last nine starts after getting tagged by the Houston Astros for eight runs in three innings last Friday. The loss dropped him to 0-7 over his last nine outings and 1-5 with a 6.08 ERA on the road. Sanchez is 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA in four career starts against the Angels, including a loss on May 2nd.
This is a lot to lay on the road, but Toronto is just not good and the Angels are playing well. The Blue Jays have just one win in Sanchez’s last nine starts including a loss to the Angels during that span. Look for Anaheim to improve to 6-0 against Toronto in 2019.
