The first FOX Game of the Week takes place on Saturday evening from the Nation’s Capital, featuring the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals. Both teams had Friday off following a rain-shortened season opener in which the Yanks came away with a 4-1 win behind Gerrit Cole. The team’s will resume their three-game set on Saturday in a telecast that sounds like a must-watch event. FOX will be using fan noise from the MLB2K video game in their broadcast. Giancarlo Stanton, who missed most of 2019 due to injury, smacked a two-run homer off Max Scherzer and later added an RBI single to back five solid innings from Cole on Thursday. Washington played the game shorthanded after learning star slugger Juan Soto tested positive for the Coronavirus. He will miss approximately 14 days and can’t come back until he has two negative tests. Nationals RF Adam Eaton provided all of his team’s offense Thursday with a first-inning solo homer. Postseason star Stephen Strasburg will get the ball for Washington against Yankees’ lefty James Paxton.

Paxton will be in his second season with the Yankees and recorded a career-high 29 starts in 2019 with impressive results. The lanky lefty went 15-6 with a 3.82 ERA and was even better later in the season when he posted a 1.05 ERA in five September starts. He will be facing the Nationals for the first time.
Strasburg is quickly becoming one of the top five pitchers in all of baseball and proved that even more during Washington’s World Series run in 2019. He went 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA over six appearances during the postseason and struck out a career-high 251 batters during the regular season.
I really like Stephen Strasburg – even more so than Scherzer – but this Washington lineup is not very good. They already lost Rendon and Zimmerman and now have to deal without their young slugger Soto. That is a huge bat out of the lineup. Look for New York to scrape together just enough runs to back Paxton here.
