Golden State (46-21) at Oklahoma City (42-27)
When: Saturday, March 16th, 2019
Where: Chesapeake Energy Arena,
Oklahoma City, OK
Time: 8:35 ET | TV: ABC
Opening Odds: OFF
A couple of struggling Western Conference teams – especially against the spread – will take to the court on ABC’s Saturday night game of the week as the Golden State Warriors visit the Oklahoma City Thunder. Most people, including me, think that no team can beat a fully healthy Golden State squad in a seven-game series, and the Warriors are dealing with a major injury concern right now as power forward Kevin Durant battles an ankle injury that kept him out Wednesday and leaves him questionable for Saturday. Golden State’s acquisition of DeMarcus Cousins in the offseason is helping, as Boogie delivered a season-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting in Wednesday’s 106-104 win at Houston in Duran’s abscence. The Warriors remain one game ahead of Denver for the West’s top seed entering Saturday’s action, while Oklahoma City is battling for a top four spot. The Thunder seemed to be getting back on track with two straight victories, but dropped the second game of a back-to-back in Indiana 108-106 after holding a 19-point lead at one point. OKC has lost seven of their last 11 and are 3-8 ATS in that span. This is the last of three meetings between the teams with Oklahoma City blasting Golden State in the most recent 123-95 in Oakland, however, Cousins, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green all sat out for the Warriors.
All-Star guard Klay Thompson also had a big game for Golden State, pouring in 30 points on 12-of-23 shooting against Houston, while Curry added 24 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Curry is slumping a bit with his shooting touch, hitting 35.7 percent from the floor over the last three games, including 32.4 percent from 3-point land. Cousins was the star of the game versus the Rockets, adding eight rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals to his 27-point effort. The Warriors will continue their four-game road trip in San Antonio Monday night.
All-Star forward Paul George led the Thunder with 36 points in the loss to his old Pacers team, while point guard Russell Westbrook recorded his 27th triple-double of the season with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists one night after doing the same versus Brooklyn. George made six 3-pointers against Indiana to reach 245 for the season, besting his previous career high of 244 set last season. OKC will host Miami on Monday before a home-and-home set with the Toronto Raptors.
We’ll see what kind of a line is set for this after we learn more of Duran’t status, but I’m probably leaning Thunder in this one. They’re much better at home and have already covered both matchups with Golden State this season.
Golden State has just been a little inconsistent lately, failing to cover the spread after a SU win eight straight times. I like the Thunder at home here.
