The Utah Jazz return to the comforts of home as they try and somehow get back into their Western Conference semifinal series with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. Utah got off to bad starts in each of the first two games in Oakland, falling behind by six in Game 1 after a quarter of play and 18 in Game 2. “I do think we have to start the game better,” Utah coach Quin Snyder told reporters. “Hopefully we can do that at home.” Gordon Hayward overcame a poor Game 1 and slow start in Game 2 to score 33 points, and Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 16 rebounds before fouling out for a Jazz team missing injured point guard George Hill. He was ruled out earlier in the day because of a sore left big toe and is questionable for Saturday’s contest. Utah really needs a lot more from shooting guard Rodney Hood, who is 0-of-9 from 3-point range in the series and 1-of-18 in the last four playoff games. Backup point guard Shelvin Mack had postseason highs in minutes (30:39) and points (14) on Thursday and could see a similar role if George is unable to go in Game 3.

Draymond Green knocked down five 3-pointers while scoring 21 points before a brief knee injury scare late in the Warriors’ 115-104 Game 2 victory on Friday to take a 2-0 series lead. Green was continuously left open on the perimeter as the Jazz were focused on Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson. Durant added 25 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists while Curry had 23 points, seven assists and played smothering defense on the other end of the floor as Golden State stayed unblemished through six playoff games. The Warriors became the first team to have three players record at least 20 points and five assists (Green, Curry and Durant) since the 2008 San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors also dominated the glass in Game 2, outrebounding Utah 47-39. Golden State was up by as much as 20 before letting the Jazz back in the game a few times, but were never really threatened. Head coach Steve Kerr (complications from back surgery) is unlikely to return during the series.

The change in venue shouldn’t bring a change in the result. George needs to return for Utah to have any chance at winning a game in this series. The Warriors are on a mission and it will continue on Saturday night.
Pick: Warriors -5
