We have three Thanksgiving Day games on tap, and the best of the bunch is probably the first one between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions from Ford Field. The Lions have already beaten the Vikings 14-7 back on October 1st, but Minnesota has not lost since, reeling off six-straight wins and have a chance to take a commanding division lead. The Lions have won three consecutive games overall and are 3-0 against NFC North-foes this season. Case Keenum completed a season-low 53.3% of his passes in the first meeting with Detroit, but has averaged 68.0% during the team’s winning streak – including 71.1% (27 of 38 for 280 yards) in Sunday’s 24-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has multiple touchdown passes in three straight games and seven of 10 this season, however, was held in check against Minnesota as he threw for just 209 yards without a touchdown pass last month. Detroit is going after its third sweep of the season series against Minnesota in four years, and would get within one-game of first while holding the tiebreaker.
Wide receiver Adam Thielen leads the conference with 916 receiving yards and his 16 catches of at least 20 yards has him tied with Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown for the NFL lead. Thielen has 19 catches for 387 yards in the last three games and has scored a touchdown in three straight weeks when he hauled in a 65-yarder against the Rams. Running back Latavius Murray scored twice last week while matching his season best with 6.3 yards per carry. Murray has four touchdowns in his last four games and faces a Detroit defense that allowed 222 yards rushing on Sunday and 423 over the last two weeks. The Vikings’ defense ranks second in rushing yards allowed per game (77.7), fourth in points (17.2) and fifth in yards per game (290.5) after holding the highest scoring team in the league to seven points last week.

Detroit’s 28th-ranked rushing attack probably won’t get much going against the vaunted Vikings defense, but Ameer Abdullah has three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in the last three games after scoring just once in his previous seven games. He did have a fourth quarter touchdown against the Vikings in the first meeting. Marvin Jones Jr., who had just two catches in that game, hauled in his team-leading sixth touchdown reception of the season and fourth in his last five games during Sunday’s 27-24 victory over Chicago. The Detroit defense, which ranks 23rd overall (354.5), received two sacks from defensive end Anthony Zettel in the first matchup against the Vikings.
This Minnesota team is for real, but the Lions are sneaky-good, especially at home. The short week tends to favor the home teams and the Vikings are coming off a big win over the Rams. I can see Stafford going-off in this one for a 300+ yard day. I’ll take the points in this one.
