Twins vs Yankees Preview & Free Pick [June 4th 2024]

Minnesota (33-26) at NY Yankees (42-19)
When: Tuesday, June 4th 2024
Where: Yankee Stadium,
Bronx, NY

Time: 7:05 ET | TV: TBS
Opening Odds: New York -165/7.5

The red-hot New York Yankees return home after a successful West Coast trip and will host the Minnesota Twins to begin a three-game series on Tuesday night. New York went 7-2 in San Diego, Anaheim and San Francisco including a big comeback win over the Giants on Sunday afternoon. Juan Soto mashed two home runs in that game including the game winner in the ninth inning. The Yankees are now tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the best record in Baseball at 42-19 and will host the Twins and Dodgers this week.

The Twins are 9-3 over their last 12 games and began a nine-game road trip by taking two-of-three at the Houston Astros over the weekend. Minnesota ended the series with a 4-3 victory on Sunday, when Jose Miranda hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning and also homered in the game. Royce Lewis, who suffered a severe right quadriceps strain in the season opener, is expected to return. Lewis has played only 71 games in the majors due to numerous injuries and went 4-for-23 on a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul.

Pitching Matchup

Twins – Bailey Ober (5-3, 4.89)
Yankees – Luis Gil (7-1, 1.99)

Bailey Ober will get the nod for Minnesota and will be making his first career start against the Yankees. He allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings in a 6-1 loss to Kansas City last Wednesday. Ober is 3-2 with a 5.52 ERA in six road starts this season but has a decent 1.13 WHIP.

Is there a better pitcher in Baseball this season than Luis Gil? The former Twin was just named the American League Pitcher and Rookie of the Month for May. Gil earned a spot in the rotation due to Gerrit Cole’s elbow injury and heads into Tuesday attempting to become New York’s first eight-game winner. Gil went 6-0 with a 0.70 ERA in his six starts in May and has won his past seven decisions since taking his only loss in Toronto on April 15.

I’ll lay the 1.5 run with the Yankees in this one. New York has not only been the best team in the American League, but they dominate the Twins. 46-13 in the last 59 meetings in the Bronx. Gil is un-hittable right now and the Minnesota lineup stinks. This should be an easy win to kick off the homestand.
