The battle for the final Wild Card spot continues tonight in St. Pete. Last night the Twins and Rays combined for 18 runs and 25 hits in Minnesota’s 11-7 win. With that victory, the Twins pulled to within a half a game of the final Wild Card spot in the American League. The Rays remained 2.5 back with the Rangers loss last night. Every starter in the game last night had a hit except for Grady Sizemore and Joe Mauer. The Twins have now won 4 games in a row as they approach the end of their 10-game road trip. Tampa had won 3 in a row before dropping their last two games.
Tyler Duffey squares off against Chris Archer tonight. Duffey will be making just his 4th career start. The Blue Jays bashed him in his first game, but since then Duffey has allowed only 2 runs in 13.2 innings while striking out 15. Archer is coming off a complete game 1-hit shutout of the Houston Astros, a team that scored 15 last night in Yankee Stadium. He now has 205 strikeouts on the season and has solidified himself as one of the best pitchers in the American League. He’s only 11-9 on the season, but that’s due to the lack of run support in Tampa.
These aren’t two great hitting teams, especially the Rays, so last night’s game was a bit of a fluke. I expect a low scoring affair tonight. I’m going to take a shot at the hot Twins tonight.
Pick: Twins +180
