The Minnesota Twins continue their six-game road trip with the first of three in Toronto Monday against the Blue Jays as Martin Perez opposes Marcus Stroman. The Twins were coming off a 6-1 homestand that including three wins over the Houston Astros, but lost some momentum over the weekend by dropping two of three to the New York Yankees. Sunday’s game was called after a 61-minute rain delay and the Twins down 4-1 in the 7th. Marwin Gonzalez, who signed a two-year, $21 million contract in February, might be showing signs of life after starting the season with a .159 batting average. Gonzalez is 7-for-16 over his last four games after recording his 300th career RBI in Sunday’s setback and had four hits – including a homer – in Minnesota’s series with Toronto on April 15-18. The Blue Jays won three of those four games and are returning home after a 1-5 road trip that saw their pitching staff allow 34 runs. Rookie Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. is 5-for-30 with eight strikeouts since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, while shortstop Freddy Galvis is 3-for-23 in his last five games. Eric Sogard has a modest three-game hitting streak after a solo home run in Sunday’s 10-2 loss to Texas.
Pitchers: Twins – Martin Perez (4-0, 3.41 ERA) | Blue Jays – Marcus Stroman (1-4, 2.20)
Perez is a perfect 3-0 since moving into the starting rotation after getting knocked around in three relief appearances early on. The lefty put together is best effort to date with eight scoreless innings in a 6-2 over Houston. Perez allowed four hits and struck out seven in the effort and allowed one run in six innings versus the Blue Jays on April 15.

Stroman pitched two gems against the Oakland A’s in the span of seven days, but the Los Angeles Angels pounded him for a season-high five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings in the 6-3 setback. Despite a nice 2.20 ERA, Stroman is just 1-4 on the season and Toronto is 2-5 when he starts. He is 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA in four career appearances versus Minnesota.
Despite losing two of three over the weekend, the Twins are still pretty hot and own first place in the AL Central. Perez has been terrific since moving into the rotation and the Toronto lineup doesn’t scare me.
