***THIS MATCHUP WAS PPD WEDNESDAY, BUT THE SAME PITCHERS ARE GOING TODAY AND OUR PICK STILL HOLDS***
The Los Angeles Angels are struggling to score runs lately and are falling further and further behind in the AL West, while the surging Minnesota Twins are putting distance between themselves and the rest of the AL Central. The Twins will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday night in Anaheim – a game that can be seen on MLB Network. The Angels built an early 3-0 lead on Tuesday and rode that to the sixth inning behind starter Trevor Cahill, but the Twins got to the L.A. bullpen and rallied for an 8-3 victory – their seventh in the last eight games overall and have beaten the Angels five of the last six meetings. Marwin Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs while Jorge Polanco and Eddie Rosario added two RBIs apiece as the Twins improved to 17-8 away from home and have built a 6.5-game lead over the Cleveland Indians. Rookie Luis Arraez collected two more hits including his first career homer and has gone 7-for-12 with two walks over his first four major-league games. Mike Trout belted his 11th homer of the season in Tuesday’s loss but Kole Calhoun is 0-for-8 in the series and 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts over his last three games. Shortstop David Fletcher went 3-for-3 on Tuesday to improve his batting average to .303.
Pitchers: Twins – Martin Perez (6-1, 2.89 ERA) | Angels – Matt Harvey (2-3, 6.35)
Martin Perez is making a strong case to be on the American League All-Star team by winning six of his seven decisions this season and also allowing one run or fewer in five of his seven outings. Perez is coming off a win over the Seattle Mariners last time out after surrendering just one run and five hits over 6.2 innings while posting a season-high 103 pitches. He is 4-5 with a 4.34 ERA in 17 career appearances (13 starts) against the Angels but this will be his first against them as a member of the Twins.
10 CENT MLB LINES & 1% CASH BACK
Matt Harvey has allowed just two runs in each of his last two outings, but walks have prevented him from getting past the fifth inning in both starts. He limited Kansas City to two runs and four hits over five innings, but walked four and threw 91 pitches. He has failed to work past the fifth inning in six of his last eight starts. Harvey faced the Twins back in 2013 as a member of the Mets and earned the win after giving up one run and two hits over eight innings.
This Twins team is on a roll right now and the Angels are in a funk. Perez has been one of the underrated pitchers in the American League this season, while Harvey has just been bad. Chances are, the Angels will have to use their bullpen earlier than they want and that didn’t work out well last night. Take the better team, the better pitcher, and the Twins 17-8 road record to the bank with this generous line.
