Week seven of the NFL football season will kick off with one of the best rivalries in the league. The Denver Broncos will be hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle of AFC West teams, and this division looks wide open this season. Kansas City was supposed to be the runaway winner of this division, but the rest of the teams are starting to close the gap on the mighty Chiefs. It’s always hard to predict what will happen in rivalry games, but there are a few things that stand out about each team.
Kansas City opened up the season by winning their first four games, but they come into this game with a record of just 4-2. The Chiefs have lost two straight games to the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans, and they are searching for answers heading into this game. Denver is headed in the opposite direction after winning each of their last two games. The Broncos are still in last place in the NFC West, but things can change in a hurry. The Kansas City Chiefs are -3.5 point favorites over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football.
Chiefs Need to Find Offensive Balance
If the Kansas City Chiefs are going to start winning football games again then they are going to have to find some balance on the offensive side of the football. The Chiefs lead the league with 356.0 passing yards per game, but are near last with just 88.6 rushing yards per contest. The return of wide receiver Tyreek Hill paid dividends for the Chiefs in week six, but they still need some rushing help. Running back Lesean McCoy is averaging more than 5.0 yards per carry, but he does not get many attempts.
The Kansas City defense has not been playing well so far this season, but they have been on the field a ton. Kansas City is allowing close to 23 points per game, but they gave up 31 points in their most recent loss. The Chiefs have just 11 sacks so far this season, and they will need to find a way to get some pressure on Joe Flacco if they are going to win this game.
Broncos Defense Getting the Job Done
While the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled on defense this season, defense is the main reason that the Broncos have won their last two games. Denver has allowed just 13 total points in their last two contests, and shut out the Tennessee Titans in the week six win. The Broncos have recorded just five sacks so far this season, but they have the personnel that can double that number in this matchup.
The Broncos don’t have great numbers on the offensive side of the ball despite having some talented offensive players. Quarterback Joe Flacco has completed 67 percent of his passes this season, but has thrown four interceptions to just six touchdown passes. Philip Lindsay was an emerging star a season ago, but is averaging just 65 rushing yards per game. The Broncos will need their big names to step up if they are going to pull off this upset.
Kansas City Wins Huge Road Game at Denver
The Denver Broncos have all of the momentum heading into this game, but they are not the favorites in this one. Denver has won two straight games, but this will be their toughest test of the season so far. Kansas City has lost two straight games, but they still have the talent to win the Super Bowl this season. Look for the Broncos defense to play well again, but they just don’t have the offense to keep up in this one. Kansas City is going to right the ship, and they are going to get a huge road win in this one. Bet the Kansas City Chiefs -3.5 over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football.
