The Kansas City Royals are at it again just six months after their first World Series appearance since 1980. They are off to a terrific 11-4 start on the season and that record includes last night’s 3-0 loss at home to the Twins. They Royals are excelling both offensively and defensively. Their in the top 5 in the majors in Runs, Average, OPS, and Stolen Bases. Kansas City has 6 everyday players that are hitting over .300 led by Lorenzo Cain at .377. They also hold a 3.25 team ERA which ranks 7th. Yordano Ventura will get his 4th start of the season tonight and his second on the road. Aside from Edison Volquez, Ventura and the rest of the starting rotation hasn’t been very good. It’s the best bullpen in the league that’s got them off to a hot start. Ventura is 2-1 with a hefty 4.80 ERA and has allowed a home run in each of his previous three starts. The White Sox played an early game yesterday and beat the Cleveland Indians 6-0 to take 2 of 3 in that series against a team that many consider a World Series threat. Chicago has struggled to a 6-8 start, but it could be worse. As a team they’re ranked 24th in runs scored and 23rd in team ERA. That’s not a good combination for winning long term. Coming off a terrific 2014 campaign, Chris Sale has picked up where he left off winning his first 2 starts including a 12-3 win at Detroit. In 12 innings he’s only walked 2 while striking out 14. He was 2-1 last year against the Royals allowing only 1 run in 15 innings before getting shelled in a September contest allowing 5 runs in 5 innings. Pick: Royals +131 |
