Every team in the National League, except the Miami Marlins, are very much alive for a postseason berth as we approach the mid-way point of the season this weekend. Two of those teams will meet once again, as the Colorado Rockies visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in a key showdown between NL West rivals starting Friday night at Chase Field. The Rockies dropped the final three games on their 2-4 homestand while the pitching staff allowed nine runs or more in four of those six games. The road has been a lot kinder for Colorado, recording a 3.90 ERA as compared to 6.41 at Coors Field. One of those staff members that has a wide home/road split is Friday starter Antonio Senzatela, who is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three road starts – including a victory over Arizona. He will face an Arizona team that has also lost three in a row including two heart-breakers at Dodger Stadium in which they led entering the bottom of the ninth. All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte went 3-for-5 on Wednesday in Arizona’s 5-4 setback to the Dodgers and is now batting .312 on the season. The Rockies have won eight of 10 meetings this season, including a three-game sweep by a combined 20-9 in Phoenix last month.
Pitchers: Rockies – Antonio Senzatela (7-5, 4.83 ERA) | Diamondbacks – Zack Greinke (9-3, 2.90)
Senzatela actually earned the win over the Dodgers at home last time out after allowing five runs (two earned), seven hits and five walks in five innings of a 13-9 victory – his seventh win. He’s allowed two earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts but is having control issues with 21 free passes in his last 40 innings of work. Senzatela is 2-4 with a 4.93 ERA in 10 games (six starts) versus the Diamondbacks.

Zack Greinke bounced back nicely after a couple of rough outings to shutout the San Francisco Giants over seven innings to pick up his ninth victory of the season. He allowed nine runs across 13 innings over his previous two starts – both at home – including five in a 6-4 loss to Colorado on June 19th. Greinke is 12-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 33 career games (32 starts) against the Rockies.
Greinke has allowed four runs or more in each of his last three home starts and that includes a game against the Rockies. Senzatela has been brilliant on the road this season and has allowed just four runs total across his last three starts against Arizona. Colorado is 8-2 in the season series and are definitely worth a shot here as a big dog.
