Rockets vs Nuggets Preview & Free Pick [11/20/2019]

Houston (11-3) at Denver (9-3)
When: Wednesday, November 20th, 2019
Where: Pepsi Center,
Denver, Colorado
Time: 9:05 ET | TV: Altitude
Opening Odds: Denver -2/225

There seems to be no slowing down the Houston Rockets right now, as they seek their ninth-straight victory, but they’ll have to do so against one of the best home teams in the league. The Denver Nuggets are 4-2 at Pepsi Center this season, but went 34-7 a year ago and come into this contest on a two-game winning streak after establishing their highest scoring output of the year in a 131-114 road win at the Memphis Grizzlies. Denver’s 5-1 road record has helped them to a 9-3 start and first place in the Northwest Division, 1.5 games over the Utah Jazz. The duo of James Harden and Russell Westbrook didn’t take long to start clicking after splitting the first six games of the season. Houston won its past two games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Portland Trail Blazers by an average of 22 points and Harden has scored at least 36 points in each game of the current winning streak. Harden scored 36 in Monday’s 132-108 rout of Portland while Westbrook contributed 28 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his 141st career triple-double. The Rockets, who are just a half-game behind the L.A. Lakers for the top spot in the Western Conference, have won 10 of the past 11 meetings against the Nuggets, while covering the spread in six of seven.

While all the publicity surrounds Harden and Westbrook, people seem to forget about Clint Capela. The center is having a monster season as well, and has recorded exactly 20 rebounds in each of the past four games, while scoring 22 points against the Blazers. Harden is averaging an NBA-best 39.2 points per game, while Westbrook contributes 21.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists for the highest scoring team in the league. Small forward Danuel House, Jr. recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists on Monday after missing the previous three contests with a back injury. The Rockets will have a huge battle at the L.A. Clippers on Friday night.

The Nuggets shoot just 44 percent from the field on the season – 25th in the NBA – but 55.1 percent against the Grizzlies on Monday including 18-of-32 from beyond the arc. Point guard Jamal Murray led the way with 39 points and 7-of-12 three-pointers after hitting just 1-of-11 overall in his previous game against Brooklyn. Power forward Paul Millsap matched his season high of 23 points against Memphis, while Juancho Hernangomez led all reserves with 15 points – a season high. The Nuggets will continue their four-game homestand on Friday against the Boston Celtics.

All streaks must come to an end, and I think this is the night where the Rockets are tested against a very solid defense. It’s hard to go against the Nuggets at home when they’re laying a small number.
