The Philadelphia Eagles will bring the best record in the NFL into the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 7. Not only can the Eagles improve to 3-0 in the division, but they can sweep the season series with their NFC East rivals and open up a big lead as we approach the midway point of the season. Philadelphia won its first three games last season under rookie quarterback Carson Wentz before collapsing and missing the playoffs, but that experience seems to be helping this time around. Washington, which won five straight in the series before dropping a 30-17 decision to the Eagles in the season opener, held on for a 26-24 victory over winless San Francisco last weekend after building an early 17-point lead. The Redskins’ only other loss was a 29-20 setback at then-unbeaten Kansas City on a Monday night, which also handed Philadelphia its only defeat. The Eagles have scored at least 20 points in 10 straight games, the league’s longest active streak.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins’ worst game this season came in that season opening loss to Philadelphia, but he is coming off a solid three-game stretch and leads the NFC with a 106.4 passer rating. Running back Rob Kelley (4.5 per carry average) is dealing with an ankle injury, which could mean the bulk of playing time will go to Chris Thompson (175 yards) and rookie Samaje Perine (166 yards). Thompson also leads the team in receiving yards (340) and came away with four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against Philly. With wideouts Terrelle Pryor and Jamison Crowder continuing to struggle, the tight-end tandem of Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis has combined for 29 catches, but just one score. Linebacker Preston Smith has recorded 4.5 of the team’s 15 sacks, including one in the season opener.

Wentz entered Week 7 fifth in passing yards (1,584) to go along with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. During the Eagles’ four-game winning streak, Wentz has thrown nine scoring passes against only one pick. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor is continuing to have a breakout season and has recorded four catches and a TD reception in each of the last two games. However, Wentz’s top target is clearly tight end Zach Ertz, who hauled in a pair of touchdown passes last week and has hurt the Redskins. He caught eight balls for 93 yards in the Week 1 matchup and has 54 catches in nine career meetings. Philadelphia ranks No. 1 in the league against the run, allowing an average of 65.7 yards, but is 29th against the pass (273.5).

The Eagles appear to have the best team in the NFC right now and can really hurt the rest of the division with a win here tonight. Washington is going to be forced to pass the ball more in this game and I think the Eagles will get after Cousins and make that difficult. I expect Philly to cruise behind the home crowd tonight.
