Clearly the game of the night on Tuesday took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, as the Minnesota Twins edged the Boston Red Sox in a 17-inning marathon thanks to the bat of Max Kepler. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Twins, who are still the only team in the majors without a three-game losing streak. The Twins was one of our top plays over on our MLB Free Picks page and we’re going right back to this matchup tonight. Max Kepler did not enter the game until the eighth inning but made a big impact nonetheless. He tied the contest in that inning then answered a Mookie Betts 13th inning home run with one of his own to keep the Twins alive until delivering a walk-off single in the 17th. Eddie Rosario recorded four hits, including one of his three doubles during the 17th to settle the longest game by innings in the history of Target Field. Rafael Devers collected three hits for his fifth multiple-hit performance in seven games for Boston, who fell into a tie with Texas for the second wild card spot – one-half game ahead of Cleveland. Boston’s bullpen has now blown 14 saves on the season after needing eight relievers to cover the final 11.1 innings. Red Sox DH J.D. Martinez had a brutal night, going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts.

Eduardo Rodriguez matched his longest outing of the season and highest pitch count (114) last time out in Baltimore, and will need to do the same after Boston’s bullpen was taxed in last night’s marathon. He limited the Orioles to one run and six hits over seven innings to improve to 3-1 in his last four outings. He is 1-1 with a 3.91 ERA in four starts against Minnesota.

Kyle Gibson has the same amount of victories as Rodriguez but with an ERA almost a run lower at 3.70. He took care of business last time out against the lowly Kansas City Royals by holding them to two hits over a season-high eight innings for his third win in four starts. The strong performance also improve his record at Target Field to 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA. Gibson held Boston to three runs and struck out 12 in two starts against them last season over 14 innings.
I’m going to ride this Twins team again, especially after last night’s dramatic win when it looked like they were going to lose twice. Rodriguez has been way too inconsistent this season and the Twins bats should get to him.
