The Golden State Warriors have one of the deepest rosters in the league – if not the deepest – but its starting to get thin and they will limp back home for Game 3 of the NBA Finals after splitting the first two games in Toronto. The Warriors were able to go 6-0 without star Kevin Durant until losing Game 1 of the Finals but bounced back strong for a 109-104 Game 2 victory that may have come at a big cost. Backup center Kevon Looney, who’s been so big in Durant’s abscence, is out for the rest of the series with a non-displaced first costal cartilage fracture (ouch). Then, guard Klay Thompson injured his left hamstring and considers himself a game-time decision despite coach Steve Kerr listing him as questionable. Kerr indicated that Thompson will be monitored closely leading up to Game 3 as he expects he will want to play no matter how he is feeling. “Klay is always going to say he’s ready to go,” Kerr said. The Raptors will try and regain homecourt advantage by winning at least one of the next two in Oakland but will need to shoot better than 11-of-38 (28.9%) from 3-point land. Toronto did activate OG Anunoby for Game 2, but he did not play. Kyle Lowry fouled out of the game for Toronto after playing just 28 minutes and Kawhi Leonard scored 34 points on 8-of-20 shooting, but also turned the ball over five times. The Raptors won their only trip to Oakland back in December 113-93 without Leonard, holding Steph Curry to 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting.

Toronto wasn’t shooting much better inside the 3-point either, recording just a 37.2 percent field goal percentage in Game 2 Leonard, power forward Pascal Siakam (5-of-18) and point guard Kyle Lowry (4-of-11) were cold. Siakam couldn’t follow-up his 32-point performance from Game 1 and had just 12 on Sunday. Reserve point guard Fred VanVleet had 17 points in Game 2 and is averaging 16 over the past five games.
Golden State may not see Durant on the court for the rest of the series and he didn’t practice with the team on Tuesday, but instead had his own workout at the team practice facility later in the day. Curry is averaging 28.5 points in the series but is just 14-of-35 from the field. Thompson is 7-for-12 from long range over the first two games and his potential abscence could really affect this series, as he also plays an underrated defense. Draymond Green flirted with another triple-double, going off for 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in Game 2.

Toronto shot poorly in Game 2 and still had a chance to win near the end. They’re a team that won’t go away and is quite frankly, healthier than Golden State right now. The Raptors also proved they can win in Oakland by beating the Warriors by 20 back in December without Kawhi. I’ll take the points in this one.
