The red-hot Texas Rangers take their potent offense east to Fenway Park when they open-up a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. The Rangers had a 10-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday in Detroit, but bounced back with a 5-2 win on Sunday Night Baseball. Solid starting pitching and a barrage of home runs have been the winning formula for Texas as they look for their 12th win in 13 contests. Texas pitchers have allowed three or fewer runs in eight of the last 11 wins and are being backed by an offense that just keeps mashing the ball. Pete Kozma hit his first home run since 2013 in the Sunday night win. The Red Sox broke out of an offensive slump on Sunday and avoided a four-game sweep in Oakland. Boston pounded out 15 hits in a 12-3 win at Oakland and kept the team from drifting below .500 for the first time this season. Red Sox 1B and former Ranger Mitch Moreland has homered in each of the last three games. Texas C Jonathan Lucroy hit safely in each of his last nine games and drove in at least one run in the last five.
Pitchers: Rangers – Andrew Cashner (1-3, 2.45 ERA) | Red Sox – Rick Porcello (2-5, 4.23)
Andrew Cashner has struggled to regain his form in the last few seasons, but seems to be on the right track. Cashner has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last six outings, but struggles to work deep into games. He earned his first victory of the season on Wednesday when he limited the Philadelphia Phillies to two runs in a season-high seven innings. Cashner, who spent the first seven seasons of his career in the NL, is seeing Boston for the first time but held Hanley Ramirez to 3-for-20 with no home runs when the two were in the NL.
Reigning Cy-Young winner Rick Porcello already owns more losses than he suffered last season (four) and is coming off a six-inning outing at St. Louis on Wednesday in which he allowed four runs on nine hits and three walks in six innings. Porcello has surrendered 10 home runs in 55.1 innings so far after giving up 23 in 223 innings last season. Porcello is 5-4 with a 5.69 ERA in nine career starts against Texas.

I have to take the hot sticks of Texas in this one. They’re on fire and Porcello has not showed any signs of Cy-Young form this season. Cashner is getting better each outing. Look for him to do just enough to earn the victory.
