A couple of struggling Eastern Conference teams will look to get back on track when the Toronto Raptors host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night at Air Canada Centre. Detroit has dropped five of its last seven games but each of those losses came on the road until Monday, when they surrendered 68 second-half points to the Charlotte Hornets in a 118-107 setback. The current skid leaves Detroit clinging to the last playoff spot in the conference – one game ahead of ninth-place Philadelphia. The Pistons are now 9-14 away from home, but the good news is, they will play 13 of the next 15 games at Little Caesars Arena after Wednesday. Toronto had a furious rally fall short in a 127-125 loss to Golden State on Monday and lost a physical contest to the 76ers on Monday. The Raptors are trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season and have fallen four games behind Boston for the No. 1 seed in the East entering Tuesday’s action. Toronto took three of four in the series last season, but Detroit’s lone win came on the road 102-101 last February.

Detroit’s normally solid defense allowed Charlotte to shoot 51.2% from the field on Monday and have allowed at least 107 points in each of its last five losses. Shooting guard Avery Bradley struggles continued on Monday, hitting just 6-of-19 from the floor and is shooting 37.8% from the field in seven games since returning from a groin injury. Center Andre Drummond had arguably his worst game of the season, scoring a season-low three points on 1-of-7 shooting Monday. Power forward Anthony Tolliver was terrific off the bench against Charlotte, hitting six of his seven shots for 17 points – his second-best point-performance of the season.

All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry returned on Monday after sitting out three games with a bruised tailbone and struggled before being ejected in the final seconds after an altercation with Philadelphia rookie Ben Simmons. Lowry ended up 3-of-16 from the floor in 37 minutes and combined four assists with four turnovers. Backup point guard Delon Wright picked-up the slack, going 5-of-6 from 3-point range, three more than his total made 3-pointers over the previous five games. Toronto will be home to face San Antonio on Friday.
NBA SCORES – ODDS – PUBLIC PLAYS
This Detroit team is better than people think, especially on defense. I expect them to bounce back from a horrible performance on Monday and keep this contest close. Detroit has covered four of the last five meetings in Toronto and this is too many points.
