Pelicans vs Warriors Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [Game 5]

New Orleans (1-3) at Golden State (3-1)
When: Tuesday, May 8th 2018
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA
Time: 10:35 ET | TV: TNT
Opening Odds: Golden State -12.5/229

The New Orleans Pelicans had a spirited effort in a dominating Game 3 victory over the Golden State Warriors, but couldn’t match that in Game 4 as the defending champions look to polish-off the upstart Pelicans on Tuesday night. Golden State came out firing in the first quarter on Sunday and built a 37-22 lead by shooting 60% to New Orleans’ 29% in the opening quarter. New Orleans chipped away by halftime, but Golden State increased their lead after halftime and cruised to a 118-92 road victory. Kevin Durant scored 38 points while hitting 15-of-27 shots from the floor, and Stephen Curry added 23 points, Klay Thompson scored 13 and Quinn Cook came off the bench to score 12 for Golden State. The Warriors shot 48.4% from the floor, including 33 percent on 3-pointers, and New Orleans shot 36.4%, including just 15 percent on 3-pointers. Golden State has averaged 120.7 points in its three victories in the series as the Pelicans have had no answer on defense. The Pelicans will try and bring the series back to New Orleans with a victory on Tuesday. The Warriors have held playoff opponents to a league-low 31.1% from 3-point territory this postseason.

Jazz, Pelicans Face Elimination – Where Do the Chips Fall?

New Orleans had a rough night shooting (36.4) and turned the ball over 19 times in Game 4, and will need a much better effort to extend this series. Anthony Davis, who had 26 points and 12 rebounds, is averaging 26.3 points and 13.8 boards in the series and has a double-double in all eight of the team’s postseason games. New Orleans is getting a solid series out of swingman E’Twaun Moore, who scored 20 points in Game 4 and is averaging 15.5 points in the series. Shooting guard Ian Clark has back-to-back double-digit games, but was 0-for-7 from long distance in Game 4 after draining 3-of-5 in the previous contest.

Durant received a critical 4 a.m. text from teammate Draymond Green after he was just 8-of-22 shooting while scoring 22 points in Game 3, and he promptly went out to record his highest scoring output this postseason. Curry made four 3-pointers in Game 4 to move into third place on the career postseason list with 326, passing San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili (324). The Warriors added Andre Iguodala to the starting lineup, and he opened a game on the floor with Durant, Curry, Thompson and Green for the first time. Iguodala contributed six points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

The Warriors came out flat in Game 3 and basically handed the game to New Orleans. They refocused in Game 4 and showed the world they are the best team in the league. I expect the same type of effort tonight, as they do not want to travel back to Louisiana for another game. The more rest they get in preparation for Houston, the better. Warriors roll tonight.
