Week 5 of the NFL schedule concludes on Monday Night Football with the Las Vegas Raiders hosting the Green Bay Packers at Allegiant Stadium. Like most Raider home games since moving to the desert, the opposing fans will probably outnumber home fans in this one. This will be Green Bay’s first visit to Vegas and they bring a 2-2 record into this one after getting beat up at home by the Detroit Lions in a Thursday night Week 4 contest.
The Raiders fell at the L.A. Chargers 24-17 last week behind rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. He was making his debut because veteran Jimmy Garoppolo was in concussion protocol. Garoppolo returned to full practice on Friday and is expected to be ready for Monday night. It was Las Vegas’ third straight setback after opening the season with a win at Denver. The Raiders come into this contest as a 2-point home favorite.
This is only the second Monday Night Football meeting between these franchises and first since 2003. The series has been one-sided for a while now. Green Bay has won eight in a row against the Raiders and have scored at least 28 in all of them and at least 38 points in four of the last five. Three of the last five have been decided by 30-plus points and just three of the 13 regular-season matchups have been decided by single digits. Of course, most of those games were against Favre and Rodgers.
Green Bay has been sitting on a 34-20 loss to the Detroit Lions for 10 days now and are eager to get back on the field. The Packers fell behind 27-3 before halftime and never recovered. Jordan Love completed 23 of 36 passes for 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He is completing a league-low 56.1 percent of his passes. No. 1 receiver Christian Watson made his season debut off injury and had the touchdown catch. Top running back Aaron Jones returned after missing a game but was a non-factor.
Linebacker Rashan Gary has a team-high 3 1/2 sacks on the season, while fellow linebacker Quay Walker enters the contest with a team-leading 47 tackles. Green Bay is 11th against the pass (197.2) but 30th against the run (155.2). The Packers will have a Bye next week before playing at Denver on October 22nd.

The Raiders offense has yet to top 20 points in a game this season and the running game has yet to get going. Reigning NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs has been horrible, running for just 166 yards on 62 carries. O’Connell was sacked seven times and turned the ball over three times against the Chargers – two fumbles and one interception. Las Vegas is 5-11 in one-score games since the start of 2022.
The Raiders’ top receiver is former Packer Davante Adams, who has hauled in 33 passes for 397 yards and three touchdowns this season. He spent his first eight seasons with Green Bay before joining Las Vegas in 2022. Adams has recorded at least 100 receiving yards in each of his past four games on Monday nights. The Raiders will host New England next Sunday afternoon.

Garoppolo will be back and the week off might do him some good. I’m going against the Packers in this one rather than backing the Raiders. Green Bay isn’t a good team and I can see Love turning the ball over and recording plenty of three-and-outs. This could also be the game that Jacobs busts-out. We posted this game at +1 last week, but it’s now -2 with the Garoppolo news. I’ll still lay it.
Pick: Raiders -2
