For the first time ever, the NFL will have a regular season game in South America when the Philadelphia Eagles battle the Green Bay Packers on Friday night. Arena Corinthians will be the venue, which host six FIFA World Cup matches back in 2014. This will be the first of five international games this season and the Eagles are a 2.5-point favorite with a total pegged at 49. Last year, the Eagles started 10-1, but lost five of their last six regular season games to finish second in the NFC East behind Dallas. Then, they were blown out against Tampa Bay in the Wild Card game.
The Packers played without Aaron Rodgers for the first time since 2004 and managed to finish 9-8 behind Jordan Love. Green Bay upset Dallas in the Wild Card game and nearly did the same against San Francisco in the Divisional Round. Philadelphia and Green Bay have alternated victories over their last four meetings, with the Eagles winning the most recent game 40-33 in 2022. On the futures board, Philly is +1200 to win the Super Bowl and +550 to win the NFC. Green Bay is a surprising +1600 to lift the Lombardi Trophy and +210 to win the NFC North.
GREEN BAY PACKERS
Love had such a solid season in 2023 that he was rewarded with a $220 million contract in the offseason. He finished seventh in total passing yards (4,159) and second in passing TDs (32) while throwing 11 interceptions. He has a deep wide receiver corps in Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. The Packers hired former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as their new defensive coordinator. Hafley has an aggressive scheme in attacking the quarterback. Green Bay also added safeties Xavier McKinney and Javon Bullard.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Last season, Jalen Hurts set career-highs in passing yards (3,858), passing TDs (23) and interceptions (15). While he finished with his lowest total rushing yards in a season (605) since he became a full-time starter, Hurts did put up a career-high 15 rushing TDs, second-most in the NFL. The Eagles made a big move in the offseason by signing running back Saquon Barkley away from the division-rival Giants. It should be an explosive offense with Barkley and wideouts A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson.

I expect a big season from the Eagles after melting down down the stretch in 2023. The addition of Barkley will take some pressure off Hurts having to run the ball so often and keep him healthy. I know Love had a great season, but I’m not sold on him. I can see him regressing a bit this year now that he got paid a ton of money. This will probably be a high scoring game and I like the Eagles to win by a field goal or more.
