After a big scare in Game 1, the Cleveland Cavaliers look to take a 2-0 series lead when they host the Indiana Pacers in Game 2 of their first round series on Monday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland withstood a late comeback and earned a one-point win in the first game of the Eastern Conference playoffs, but questions about the team remain. The Cavaliers lost the top seed to the Boston Celtics with a 12-15 record after the All-Star Break including losing their last four regular season contests. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was not at his best on Saturday, going 1-of-9 from 3-point range. The Cavs shot 53.8% in Game 1, but also allowed Indiana to shoot nearly 50% and make 11 threes. Cleveland also shot a dreadful 14-27 from the free throw line and were outrebounded 41-34 including letting the Pacers get 12 offensive boards.

C.J. Miles missed a mid-range jumper at the buzzer in Saturday’s loss but Indiana feels confident that it can hang with the defending NBA Champions. “We knew we could go toe-to-toe with them,” Pacers All-Star forward Paul George told the media. The last possession of Game 1 was a hot topic of conversation after the game, with George wondering why he didn’t get the ball back after passing out of a double team. “I talked to C.J. about it,” George told reporters. “In situations like that, I’ve got to get the last shot.” George finished with 29 points and went 6-of-8 from 3-point range in the loss, marking the sixth time in eight playoff games the last two seasons that he scored at least 25 points. Lance Stephenson stepped up and scored 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting in Game 1 to go along with a +7 rating – the only bench player to have a positive rating while on the floor. Indiana made 17-of-20 free throws in Game 1.

Cleveland still has problems and are not close to being the dominant team they should be. The Pacers should be able to hang around again in Game 2, so take the points.
