The Baltimore Orioles are slowly fading out of the playoff picture and will look to right the ship on Wednesday night when they try and avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the last-place Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays scored twice in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win on Tuesday and their fourth consecutive victory overall. Britton’s second blown save in eight appearances following his American League-record streak of 60 sent the Orioles to their sixth consecutive defeat and dropped them 4.5 games out of the second wild card with 17 to play. Kevin Gausman, who is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA in five starts this season versus Toronto, will attempt to end the slide on Wednesday as he opposes Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman. Rookie shortstop Richard Urena capped a three-hit game with a walk-off single to lift the Blue Jays and extend his hitting streak to five games. Blue Jays C Russell Martin, sidelined for a month with an oblique injury, is scheduled to return Wednesday. Tim Beckham hit his 21st homer Tuesday for the Orioles and ninth in 40 games since he was acquired from Tampa Bay.

He threw 13.2 scoreless innings in his previous two starts, blanking Toronto on five hits over six innings in a no-decision on September 1st. Kevin Pillar has owned Gausman, going 10-for-22 lifetime.

Stroman will make his fifth attempt at his 12th victory after taking the loss on Friday against Detroit, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings. He was knocked out of the game in the second inning at Baltimore in his previous outing when he was hit by a line drive by Mark Trumbo. Adam Jones is 6-for-19 against Stroman, who beat the Orioles with 7.2 scoreless innings of five-hit ball on June 28th.

The Orioles have been a very streaky team all season and right now, they’re cold. Even their star closer is blowing games. I like Stroman in this one tonight and for the Jays to hit Gausman pretty good.
