The San Antonio Spurs nearly lost all control of their season during their annual rodeo trip that spanned the All-Star Break, but they’ve returned home and seem like a completely different team. The Spurs look for their third straight victory when they host the surging Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night at AT&T Center. The Spurs went 1-7 on their eight-game road trip and dropped all the way to eighth place in the Western Conference standings, with the only win coming at lowly Memphis 108-107 as seven-point favorites. The only game they covered was a three-point loss at Toronto as eight-point dogs. The Spurs are coming off two double-digit victories over Detroit and third-place Oklahoma City to stay three games clear of ninth-place Sacramento entering Monday’s action. The Nuggets are still trying to catch Golden State for the top spot and sit 1.5 games back after dropping their last two home games to Utah and New Orleans. Denver had a five-game winning streak (4-1 ATS) prior to those two setbacks and are seeking their first win in San Antonio since March 4th, 2012. The home team has won the last eight games in the series, including San Antonio’s 111-103 victory the day after Christmas.

Part of Denver’s issues in their latest two losses was superstar Nikola Jokic was unable to get going. He was 5-of-15 from the floor in the loss to Utah on Thursday, then played just 22 minutes on Saturday due to foul trouble. Jokic was still able to provide 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, nine rebounds and seven assists on Saturday, but will need to stay on the court more to beat San Antonio. Isaiah Thomas produced 12 points in 15 minutes off the bench versus the Pelicans, but was just 5-of-14 from the floor and is 8-for-25 from long range in his first six games with the Nuggets. Denver will have a day off before playing the Lakers in L.A. on Wednesday.

All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge and small forward Rudy Gay helped San Antonio upset the Thunder on Saturday, with Adridge scoring 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Aldridge scored at least 24 points in each of the last three games, while Gay scored 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting in 26 minutes off the bench against the Thunder. In Gay’s 12 years in the league, he’s never shot better than 39.6 percent from three-point land in a season, but has drained 42.8 percent in 2018-19 including 50 percent in February. The Spurs will be back out on the road Wednesday against Atlanta.

The home team has won each of the last eight meetings.

The home team has dominated this series lately and Denver has not won here in exactly seven years to the day. The Spurs are back home and playing well and should be able to keep that momentum going against a Denver team that is 11-18 ATS on the road.
