The Denver Nuggets have been one of the best home teams in the league this season, but the road has been a different story. The Nuggets are on the outside looking in as they continue their brutal seven-game road trip with a visit to Philadelphia on Monday to take on the surging 76ers. Denver, who are 2-2 on the trip thus far, enter play 1.5 games behind the Utah Jazz for the No. 8 spot in the West. They dropped the first two games of the road trip before winning at Chicago and Washington to improve to 13-23 away from the Pepsi Center. It won’t get any easier as the final three opponents on the trip – Philadelphia, Toronto and Oklahoma City – are all in the top four of their respective conferences. The Nuggets are hoping to stay close to Utah during the trip before finishing up the regular season with four of six at home. The 76ers are on the verge of clinching their first playoff berth since 2011-12 and are sitting in the No. 4 spot in the East after cruising past the Minnesota Timberwolves 120-108 on Saturday. Philadelphia is just 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the No. 3 spot and will face five straight opponents with losing records after their contest with the Nuggets. The Sixers took the first meeting in Denver 107-102 on December 30th.

Will Barton carried the Nuggets past the Wizards on Friday by scoring 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, including four free throws in the final 26 seconds to clinch it. Barton has taken on a heavier role of late with fellow shooting guard Gary Harris (knee) out and is averaging 20.3 points over the last three games. Center Nikola Jokic scored 25 points on Friday and is averaging 26.6 over his last three, while Jamal Murray is averaging 20.8 points over the last eight games to lift his season mark to 16.6.

Philadelphia point guard Ben Simmons is wrapping up a terrific first season in the league and trying to lock up the Rookie of the Year Award. He recorded 15 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds on Saturday for his 10th triple-double. Joel Embiid is also making his presence felt down the stretch and had 19 points, six boards, and three blocks in just 24 minutes on Saturday. Shooting guard Marco Belinelli is averaging 17 points on 60 percent shooting in the last four games.
Denver may have won their last two on the road, but the trip gets really tough now and the Sixers are rolling into the playoffs. Philly is playing with a lot of confidence and swagger right now and I don’t see Denver keeping it close. The Nuggets will also miss Harris’ shooting in this game.
