The Mets and Yankees finish off their 3-game series tonight in prime time on ESPN. They took turns beating each other up in the first two games as the Yankees won the opener 6-1 and Mets took the second game 8-2. The Mets still own Baseball’s best record at 14-4 thanks to their perfect 10-0 record at home. They’ve been getting great pitching and timely hitting. They have a team ERA of 2.96 and their starting staff leads the majors with 13 quality starts. One of the reasons for their early success is tonight’s starting pitcher Jon Niese. He is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 3 starts. He did however face the Braves twice and the Phillies once. Two dreadful hitting teams right now. He needs to stay away from the walks tonight (8 walks in 18 IP) or the Yankees lineup could make him pay. The Yankees are an early surprise in this young season. They are tied for 1st in the crowded American League East at 10-8. They’re scoring runs in bunches and getting pretty decent pitching. They are one of the worst fielding teams in the league with 14 errors in 18 games. Alex Rodriguez had a hot start to the season, but has cooled off since. He’s 1-7 in this series so far. Nathan Eovaldi will be getting his fourth start of the season after facing 3 very tough offenses. He holds a 3.12 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched facing Detroit, Baltimore, and Boston. This could be his easiest test so far, but the Mets do know him well since Eovaldi played in the National League the last 5 years. Back in September the Mets roughed him up for 6 runs in only 4 innings. Pick: Yankees -134 |
