The Denver Nuggets need to start turning things around and will get a chance at home against a team that they’ve had success beating recently when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night at Pepsi Center. Denver has dropped four of their past five games, but they have taken five of the last seven matchups with Dallas, but the Mavericks got the better of the Nuggets in the first meeting this season. The Mavericks used a 39-point first quarter to propel them to a 122-105 victory in their December 4th encounter in Dallas. The Nuggets are coming off being throttled by the San Antonio Spurs 112-80 on Saturday and Denver’s four losses during the stretch are by an average of 15.8 points. Dallas is having their own issues with four defeats in the past six games while spending the first half of the season as one of the worst teams in the NBA. The Mavericks suffered a 107-101 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, marking the sixth consecutive defeat in which they have allowed 100 or more points.

One player for Dallas that’s not slumping right now is rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who scored 23 points in the loss to the Lakers and has eight straight double-digit outings, including three of at least 20 points. Smith, the ninth overall pick in the draft, got the better of No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball on Saturday by limiting him to nine points on 4-of-13 shooting. Guard Wesley Matthews scored 17 on Saturday – rebounding from a four-point outing on 2-of-8 shooting against the Hornets in his previous game. Harrison Barnes, who leads the team in scoring (18.7), was a miserable 7-of-21 against the Lakers after hitting 14 of his 22 shots over the previous two games combined.

Denver’s defense had no answers for slowing down San Antonio, which made 14-of-27 3-pointers and scored 30 or more points in two separate quarters. Second-leading scorer Nikola Jokic (15.8) recorded 23 points and nine rebounds, just missing out on his 15th double-double of the season. Shooting guard Gary Harris (18 points) was the only other Nugget to recorded double-digit points, but made just six of his 16 shots against San Antonio. The Nuggets, who are hanging onto the final playoff spot in the West, play nine of their next 11 games at home.
NBA SCORES – ODDS – PUBLIC PLAYS
This is a perfect spot for Denver to get back on track. Dallas is one of the worst clubs in the league and Denver play extremely well at Pepsi Center (15-5). This is really not a lot of points to lay here.
