Masters 2016: Payouts for Bookies and Bettors From the Mirage

With the 2016 Masters complete, it’s time to take a look at the winners and losers at The Mirage Sportsbook, Las Vegas.

Jordan Spieth’s meltdown was the incident everyone was talking about and this was certainly prosperous for The Mirage.

It worked out even better for the online bookies that Willet was the winner in the end.

Masters 2016 Review for Bookies

Willet opened up at 125/1, went up to 150/1 and then closed at 50/1.

In terms of tickets:

  • There were a lot of $10 and $20 tickets on at 100/1
  • There was one $100 ticket at 100/1
  • And one $200 ticket at 50/1, so someone got to cash in a $10,000 ticket largely thanks to Spieth falling apart.

Spieth was the favourite going in to the tournament and closed at 7/5.

There were a lot of tickets written on Spieth and The Mirage went in to the fourth round with Spieth as the Even money favourite, whereas Willet was available at 15/1.

Plenty of money went on Spieth on the morning of the fourth round and it looked like he was going to run away with it after the 9th hole but then things changed rapidly.

Therefore, the 2016 Masters did not work out too well for bettors and the meltdown of Spieth certainly favoured The Mirage Sportsbook, despite there being a few big winners on Willet.

US Open Betting Preview

Spieth is still going to be the favourite for the second major of the year, the US Open.

He is tri-favourite with Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, who are all available at 8/1. The public can take things from there and decide who the favourite is going to be.

Spieth has the most tickets written on him as it stands after the Masters and there are also a lot of tickets written on Mickelson, at 30/1 but then there always a lot of people backing him.

Willet opened at 75/1 but he is now at 40/1 and there have been quite a few bets on him, even at 75/1 and obviously more since his Masters triumph. If the tournament started today, The Mirage Sportsbook would be sizeable losers, if Spieth, Mickelson or Willet won the tournament.

However, there is still a long way to go and a lot of money to come in.
