The Seattle Mariners seek their fifth straight victory and a three-game series sweep against the Texas Rangers when the two AL West clubs battle in the Arlington heat on Wednesday night. The Mariners are a season-best two games over .500 and have scored 14 runs en route to taking the first two games of this series in Texas. Robinson Cano sparked Tuesday’s 8-7 victory as he doubled twice leaving him one shy of 500 for his career, and drove in three runs to help Seattle move within 1.5 games of Kansas City for the American League’s second wild card. Five different Mariners recorded two hits including being Nelson Cruz, who mashed his 22nd homer of the season. Outfielder Jarrod Dyson, who recorded two hits and scored twice on Tuesday for Seattle, stole his 24th base of the season and 200th of his career. Texas has dropped four straight including 17 of their last 27 home games. Joey Gallo hit two homers to center field including one that landed on the roof beyond the fence, and drove in four runs in Tuesday’s loss. Rougned Odor is also slugging a hot bat, homering in three straight games and seven times in his last nine games. The Mariners are 8-3 against the Rangers this season and have won 11 of the last 15 meetings.

Pitchers: Mariners – Ariel Miranda (7-4, 4.31 ERA) | Rangers – Andrew Cashner (6-8, 3.48)

Ariel Miranda is coming off a strong outing against the New York Mets, striking out a career high 10 batters in six innings, but came away with a no-decision for the fourth consecutive start. He allowed two homers against the Mets, marking the sixth time in his last eight outings he has given up multiple dingers. Miranda allowed three unearned runs and three hits but did not factor in the decision in a six-inning effort against the Rangers last season – his lone career start against them.

Andrew Cashner is starting to turn things around, winning back-to-back starts and three of his last four. He limited Baltimore to one run and five hits over seven innings in his last outing and has posted a 2.36 ERA in his last four. Cashner is 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA in two starts against Seattle this season and 0-3 with a 3.58 ERA in six career appearances (five starts). Kyle Seager (5-for-13, one homer) and Jean Segura (6-for-18) have had success against Cashner.

Seattle has been playing well since the All-Star Break and have owned the Rangers this season. Look for Miranda to keep the ball in the park tonight and for Seattle to get to Cashner early and often. Sweep!
