We’ve seen in the past that when the Oakland A’s get a little run going, they’re tough to stop. It appears they might be settling into midseason form with wins in six straight games to climb back to the .500 mark and will entertain the struggling Seattle Mariners in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night. The A’s are coming off a nine-game road trip in which they dropped the first two games in Seattle before winning their next six, and that doesn’t count the game in Detroit that was suspended in the seventh-inning with the A’s leading 5-3. That game will resume when the Tigers come to Oakland in September. The A’s have been on this run even with slugger Khris Davis battling a hip injury that just might land him on the 10-day injured list prior to Friday’s game. Seattle has lost six of its last seven after getting swept in a three-game series this week at Texas. The Mariners, who hit 56 home runs in their first 25 games this season, are 10-27 since a 13-2 start. They still lead the league at 93 with first baseman Daniel Vogelbach pacing the M’s with 14. This will be the third series of the season between the clubs and the third different venue. The Mariners took the first two in Japan and two more in Seattle earlier this month.

Wade LeBlanc’s return from the injured list could have gone better after the veteran lefty allowed four home runs among seven hits and seven runs in 2.1 innings of an 18-4 loss to Minnesota on Saturday. He went on the IL after an April 12th start against Houston in which he needed 92 pitches to get through 4.2 innings of a 10-6 loss. LeBlanc is 3-0 with a 3.31 ERA in seven games (five starts) against Oakland and won his only road start this season (April 7 @ CWS).

Daniel Mengden has had mixed results in his two starts since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. The righty allowed just one run, three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven innings of a 4-1 victory at Detroit on Saturday after getting hit for four runs and four walks in his previous start versus Cleveland. Mengden is 0-2 with a 5.89 ERA in four games (three starts) versus the Mariners.
Talk about two teams going in opposite directions. Seattle has gone from the best record in Baseball (13-2) to dead last in the AL West, while the A’s are climbing back up the standings. I can see this game going over, but I’ll take Oakland on the runline as my play here. This could be one of those 10-6 type games. The A’s should feast on LeBlanc.
