The Boston Celtics are on a torrid streak right now and they look to make it 10 straight victories when they host longtime-rival the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night at TD Garden. The Celtics dropped their first two games after newly-acquired Gordon Hayward went down in the opener to a terrible ankle injury, but have regrouped to win the next nine and have the NBA’s best record to this point. Boston is coming off a 110-107 win at Atlanta on Monday in which they surrendered more than 100 for the first time in eight games. The Celtics lead the NBA in scoring defense at 94.5 points a game. The Lakers are not as strong on defense, ranking 20th (107.3) entering Tuesday’s action, but did enough on the other end of the floor to win three of their last four games. Rookie point guard Lonzo Ball is the floor leader but is not having much success scoring and is shooting 29.9% overall, including 6-of-30 over the last three games. Boston took both meetings last season and three straight in the series.

Ball is averaging 6.9 assists and 6.4 rebounds in 33 minutes after dishing out nine assists in Sunday’s 107-102 win over Memphis, but he went 1-of-8 from 3-point range in that game. Kyle Kuzma is taking over the rookie scoring load for this young Lakers squad and is up to an average of 15.4 points on the season after putting up a combined 72 points on 29-of-45 shooting in the last four games. Center Brook Lopez is leading the team with a 16.4 scoring average, but has upped his game considerably, pouring in 27.3 points over the last three. Los Angeles continues their four-game road trip through three time zones Thursday night in Washington, DC.

Boston passed on Ball in June’s draft and instead traded down to the No. 3 spot and picked up forward Jayson Tatum, who is averaging 14.3 points and a much better 50% shooting, including a sizzling 52.9% from 3-point range. Tatum recorded 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added eight rebounds in Monday’s win while center Al Horford finished an assist shy of a triple-double (15, 10, 9). Horford had to settle for his fourth double-double of the year and is averaging 14.6 points and 9.2 rebounds while shooting 47.4% from long distance. Power forward Marcus Morris, who has played only two games this season because of knee soreness), sat out Monday’s game but is expected to return on Wednesday.

Boston is rolling right now, and while the Lakers have a nice young team, aren’t ready to compete against an experienced team like the Celtics. I hate laying this many points, but it’s hard not to with Boston winning nine straight.
