In-state rivals the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats played a thriller earlier this season in Lawrence, and Monday’s game in Manhattan is expected to be as competitive and exciting as the first. Both teams shot 49% in the Jayhawks’ 73-72 win on January 13th and Kansas State forward Dean Wade kicked off a streak of five consecutive 20-point outings with 22 in the loss and capped it with 20 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats pushed their winning streak to four games in a 56-51 win over Georgia on Saturday. In the first game, Devonte’ Graham scored 23 points and Malik Newman hit two go-ahead free throws with 15 seconds left to help Kansas to the one-point victory. The Jayhawks (6-2) lead four conference foes by one game in the standings including the Wildcats (5-3) as the Big 12 is aiming to get possibly seven teams into the NCAA Tournament. Svi Mykhailiuk scored 24 points and Newman added 15 and a team-high seven rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 79-68 victory over Texas A&M last time out to rebound from an 85-80 setback to Oklahoma. Graham was held to eight points on 2-of-11 shooting Saturday and has connected on just 9-of-40 shots over his last three games, playing all 40 minutes each time. Graham scored his 1,434th point on a free throw with 13:19 left in first half against Texas Tech, passing Wilt Chamberlain for No. 25 on the all-time scoring list. He also increased his career assist total to 504, surpassing Kevin Pritchard and Russell Robinson on the all-time assist list (10th). Kansas will host Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Freshman guard Cartier Diarra added 12 points and led the Wildcats with five assists and the defense held Georgia to a season-low 51 points and 37% shooting from the field. Wade (16.2 points, 6.5 rebounds) is averaging 21.5 points on 53.3% shooting in his last five games and scored 22 points in the first game against the Jayhawks this season. Diarra added a career-high 18 points and point guard Barry Brown (17.3 points, 3.4 assists) had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds against their bitter rivals.
