The Cleveland Indians recently surrendered first place in the American League Central to the Minnesota Twins, and they continue to lose ground on them with their recent slide. Cleveland has lost four of their last six games after last night’s 4-3 extra-innings setback to the Oakland A’s in the opener of their three-game weekend series. Indians righty Trevor Bauer looks to get his team back on the winning side when he opposes Oakland’s Aaron Brooks on Saturday afternoon – the FS1 game of the week. Matt Chapman blasted a leadoff home run in the 12th inning on Friday, giving Oakland the victory, and Josh Phegley collected three hits and an RBI for the A’s, who improved to 3-1 on its six-game homestand. Oakland is still sitting at the bottom of the AL West despite a 13-9 record at home and are 6.5 games behind the Houston Astros. Tyler Naquin recorded his second two-hit performance in three games for Cleveland on Friday, while Jake Bauers is 4-for-10 over his last three games.

Bauer has been hit hard in his last two outings, especially his latest when the Chicago White Sox tagged him for eight runs – seven earned – and 10 hits in a season-low five innings. The lowly Miami Marlins got him for four runs over seven innings of work in his previous start but received enough run support to earn his fourth victory. Bauer, who has a 2.88 ERA in five road starts, is just 1-3 with a 4.09 ERA in six career starts against Oakland.

Brooks has allowed three runs or more in each of his last five starts after shutting out the Boston Red Sox on April 1st over six innings. This will be his first start since April 30th, when he allowed five runs on six hits and three walks over a season-low 4.1 innings in a rematch with Boston. Brooks, who allowed eight runs over 10 innings in his last two turns at home, won his only career start against Cleveland in 2015, when he allowed one run and five hits in 7.1 innings.
Bauer is a strikeout pitcher, but only two teams have struck out fewer times than this Oakland team. Bauer has also not looked good in his last two starts and has surrendered four homers in his last three outings. On the other side, Brooks has been pretty bad all season and hasn’t pitched in a few weeks. I can see each team scoring at least four runs here, so take the over.
