The Washington Redskins blew a golden opportunity last week to get back to .500 and stay in the playoff hunt, and will need to rebound quickly as it hosts the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Night in the Nation’s Capital. The Redskins, who have dropped two straight and four of their last five, blew a 15-point lead in the final six minutes of an eventual 34-31 overtime loss to New Orleans on Sunday and dropped to 11th place in the NFC – two games out of the final playoff slot. Washington will not play a team with a winning record the rest of the season. New York’s season has been over since September, but they have a chance to deliver a big blow to the postseason chances of one of their NFC East rivals. The Giants ended a three game losing streak with a 12-9 overtime victory over AFC West-leading Kansas City on Sunday. The teams split their two meetings in 2016 with the home team capturing both contests.
New York’s defense came up huge on Sunday, limiting Kansas City to three field goals after surrendering 106 points during its three-game slide. The Giants won despite Eli Manning completing just 54.3% of his passes and throwing for only 205 yards while failing to toss a touchdown pass for the first time since the season opener. Orleans Darkwa has run for at least 70 yards in three-straight weeks and added a touchdown on 20 carries versus the Chiefs, but none of the team’s receivers had more than three catches on Sunday. Safety Landon Collins led the defensive effort by intercepting a pass and recording a career-best 14 tackles. The Giants will travel to Oakland next week to take on the Raiders.

Washington wasted a monster game by Kirk Cousins, who threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Saints. Cousins will be without some of his best weapons as Chris Thompson, who leads the team in touchdowns, rushing and receptions, was lost for the season after suffering a broken fibula on Sunday. The injuries don’t stop there as wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was placed on injured reserve, tight end Jordan Reed remains a questionable and the offensive line could be without three starters and the top two centers. Rookie Samaje Perine ran for a season-high 117 yards and could be a key factor in taking pressure off Cousins. The defense has been a big concern as well, allowing at least 33 points in the past four losses. Washington will play at Dallas next Thursday night.
Despite the Redskins being so banged-up, they’re still a much better team than the Giants, who don’t really have any motivation left. Cousins will be able to lead Washington to enough points and the defense will shut down Eli and company.
