The Giants failed to gain ground on the Dodgers last night as they lost to the Pirates for the second time in 3 days. Tonight, they’ll try and salvage a split in their 4-game series with the Bucos. The Giants had been red-hot since the All-Star Break, but have since dropped 4 of their last 6 and they’re only averaging just over 2 runs a game in those six contests. Ryan Vogelsong gets the call tonight and he’s been pretty good since coming back into the starting rotation. In his last 2 starts he’s pitched 11 innings, only given up 5 hits, and 1 run while striking out 13.
The Pirates go with lefty Francisco Liriano, who was roughed up by Arizona in his last outing. Overall he’s 8-6 with a 3.35 ERA. The Pirates are still trying to catch the Cardinals in the N.L. Central, but they do hold a comfortable lead in the Wild Card race. They’ve won 8 of their last 10 games overall and look to finish their home stand on a high note before heading to Miami.
I know Vogelsong has pitched well lately, but I don’t trust him to keep it up. The Pirates should hit him and the Giants will struggle against Liriano.
Pick: Pirates -1.5 +130
