The Florida State Seminoles are under a lot of fire from their fans in Tallahassee and it boiled over after last week’s 31-28 home loss to Louisville as coach Jimbo Fisher exchanged words with some angry fans heading back to the locker room. The Seminoles poor start has them tied with the Boston College Eagles near the bottom of the ACC Atlantic Division, and the two teams will square-off Friday night in Chestnut Hill. Boston College has surprised the league with back-to-back road wins over Louisville and Virginia, beating-up the Cavaliers 41-10 behind the best game of the season for redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Brown. The Seminoles gave up nearly 500 yards (449) in the loss to Louisville last week, and have already matched the highest single-season loss total under Fisher, who is in his eighth year at Florida State. The ‘Noles are 7-0 against Boston College under Fisher, including a 45-7 rout at home last season.
The Seminoles lack of success this season can be attributed to key injuries, and they suffered another one last week with the loss of junior running back Jacques Patrick (knee), likely for the rest of the season. Patrick’s 434 rushing yards trailed only freshman Cam Akers (454), who will assume a greater role along with sophomore Amir Rasul (26 yards on seven carries). QB James Blackman, who took over for Deondre Francois after Week 1, has seven TD passes and six interceptions in five games. Florida State will be home to an improved Syracuse squad next week before going to Clemson on November 11th.

Brown had completed just 46.9% of his passes over his previous four games before hitting on 19-of-24 and three touchdowns against Virginia. That took a heavy workload off freshman running back AJ Dillon, who ran 39 times for 272 yards in the previous week at Louisville and gained 89 more versus the Cavaliers to raise his season total to 694, third in the ACC. Kobay White, also a freshman, leads the Eagles in receptions (24) and receiving yards (313) after reeling in a 76-yard TD last week. Tight end Tommy Sweeney has eight catches for 112 yards and two scores over the last two games.
Boston College is playing much better than Florida State right now and has more confidence. Even with the injuries, I can’t see how Florida State losses this game to B.C. They have so much more pro talent and they’ll want to win one for Fisher, who is clearly on the hot seat right now. I’ll take the ‘Noles as a small road favorite.
