The Philadelphia Eagles will look for back-to-back road wins to start the season when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs in a Week 2 battle from Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz improved to 4-0 in September games when he help lead Philly to a 30-17 win at Washington last Sunday. The Chiefs were the surprise of Week 1, as they spoiled the Super Bowl ring ceremony in New England on Opening Night with a 42-27 victory. After working together for years, head coaches Andy Reid and Doug Pederson will meet for the first time. It’s Reid’s second meeting with his former team, as the Chiefs won 26-16 at Philadelphia in his first season with the club in 2013. The coaches go way back, as Pederson played for Reid in Green Bay and Philadelphia before joining his coaching staffs with the Eagles and Chiefs. Pederson was Reid’s offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2013-15, so he should have a small advantage in that aspect. Chiefs LB Justin Houston, who had two sacks last week against New England, recorded a career-high 4.5 in his most recent meeting with the Eagles.
Wentz completed 26-of-39 for 307 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Week 1 and targeted tight end Zach Ertz and receiver Nelson Agholor (8 targets each) often. They’ll need more than just Wentz chucking the ball all the time and will look to get the ground game going with LeGarrette Blount (46 yards on 14 carries against Washington) as their lead back. The defense forced four turnovers in Week 1, but will be going up against a terrific ball control offense in Kansas City. The Eagles will have their home opener next week against the New York Giants before going back on the road to face the Chargers in L.A.

Kansas City’s offense exploded in Week 1 at New England as rookie running back Kareem Hunt went off for 246 yards from scrimmage – the most by any NFL player in his debut. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who has scored a touchdown of at least 60 yards in five consecutive games, caught seven passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Alex Smith was spectacular, going 28-of-35 for 368 yards with four TDs. The defense allowed their share of yards to Tom Brady and company, allowing 371, but clamped down in the second half and held the Super Bowl champs to 10 points and none in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles were pretty good last September and have started out strong already. Pederson is anxious to show his mentor that he has his team going in the right direction. Kansas City has been an awful cover team at home, going 3-9 ATS in their last 12 at Arrowhead and Philly is on an 11-2 ATS run against AFC opponents. I like this to be a close game to the end, so I’ll take the points.
