The Miami Dolphins look to ride the momentum they received from backup quarterback Matt Moore in last week’s comeback win, as they visit the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night to kick-off Week 8 action. Moore came off the bench after Jay Cutler suffered multiple cracked ribs on Sunday to rally Miami from a 14-point deficit and record a 31-28 victory over the New York Jets. Moore threw two touchdown passes during a 17-point fourth quarter and brings a more positive attitude to the team than Cutler, who could miss multiple weeks. Moore will be making his 29th career start and will now be backed-up by newly signed David Fales. Miami has won three straight games to stay within a half-game of first place New England in the crowded AFC East. Baltimore has allowed an average of 27.6 points while losing four of their last five games. The Ravens are two games behind front-running Pittsburgh in the AFC North after dropping a 24-16 decision in Minnesota last week. The Ravens have won five of the last six regular-season meetings to tie the all-time series at 6-6.
Running back Jay Ajayi is fourth in the AFC with 442 yards rushing, but his 3.5-yard average is well below the 4.9 mark of last season’s breakout campaign. Ajayi will attempt to get his third 100-yard performance of the year against a Baltimore unit that ranks last in the NFL in rushing defense (145.3 yards per game). Moore will look to ignite an offense that ranks 31st in scoring (15.3 points) and dead last in total offense (261.8 yards) thanks to Cutler. Deep threat wideout Jarvis Landry is averaging only 8.1 yards a catch on 45 receptions. Defensive end Cameron Wake has recorded six sacks after posting 2.5 against the Jets, but the defense has made only two interceptions despite ranking 7th in points allowed (18.7).

Baltimore ranks 23rd in scoring offense (18.8 points) and 28th in total offense (277.6 yards) as quarterback Joe Flacco continues to struggle with five touchdowns and eight interceptions. The rushing attack has been able to keep the Ravens in games with the duo of Alex Collins and Javorius Allen combining for 666 yards, but only one score. Allen also leads the team with 31 receptions as deep threat Mike Wallace has only 16 grabs. Wallace and Breshad Perriman are in danger of missing the game due to concussions, while fellow WRs Jeremy Maclin and Michael Campanaro are doubtful with shoulder injuries. Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (team-best 4.5 sacks) is expected to play through a knee injury, while cornerback Brandon Carr has recorded a club-leading three interceptions.
This Miami team is a totally different club with Moore under center. The players like him better and he brings a passion needed to win football games. The Ravens offense is pathetic and they’re dealing with a lot of injuries in a short week. I like Miami outright in this one.
