Dodgers vs Rockies Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [6/27/19]

LA Dodgers (55-27) at Colorado (42-38)
When: Thursday, June 27th, 2019
Where: Coors Field,
Denver, CO
Time: 8:40 ET | TV: MLB Network
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -172/11

The Dodgers and Rockies just played a historic weekend series in Los Angeles that Colorado would love to forget about. The Dodgers took all three games of that series with walk-off home runs from three different rookies and hope to continue their dominance over Colorado when they begin a four-game series at Coors Field Thursday. Los Angeles has won all six meetings in 2019 including a three-game sweep in Denver back in April by outscoring the Rockies 29-14. The Dodgers continue their seven-game road trip after dropping two of three at division rival Arizona this week, but still maintain a healthy 12 game lead over second-place Colorado in the NL West and have won 11 in a row in the series. Cody Bellinger continued his MVP-type season on Wednesday, homering for the 26th time despite the Dodgers losing 8-2. Though Colorado has little chance of catching Los Angeles, they are sitting in a tie with the Phillies for the second wild card spot in the National League after completing a 5-4 road trip with a 6-3 victory in San Francisco. David Dahl is riding a four-game hitting streak and has three homers and nine RBI in that span including a grand slam on Wednesday. The Rockies, who begin a six-game homestand that includes two with Houston next week, are 22-15 at Coors Field.

Pitchers: Dodgers – Walker Buehler (8-1, 2.96 ERA) | Rockies – Peter Lambert (2-0, 5.85)

Walker Buehler’s last outing came against these Rockies last weekend and it was the first complete game of his young career. He struck out a career-best 16 and limited them to two runs and three hits, improving to 4-0 over his last six outings. Buehler has surrendered two runs or less in five of his last six starts and allowed just one run back on April 6th at Coors Field in L.A.’s 4-2 win.

The Dodgers have won 11 in a row against the Rockies including all 6 in 2019.

Peter Lambert has started four games in his career and the first two went well – both against the Chicago Cubs – then he was tagged for eight runs and nine hits over three innings in a wild 14-13 loss at home to San Diego. He bounced back a bit after that by limiting the Dodgers to three runs over five innings last weekend, but did not factor into the decision.

My initial thought before digging deep into this matchup was to go with the Rockies as a home dog, since they play so well there. But, you know who else plays well at Coors Field? The Dodgers. Not only has L.A. won the last 11 meetings, they have scored five runs or more nine times including 38 in their last four games in Colorado.
