The Los Angeles Dodgers wrap up their seven-game road trip to open the season when they play the final of a four-game series with the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers opened the season with three straight shutouts in San Diego then let up 12 runs in the first game at AT&T Park in a 12-6 loss. The second game went to the Giants as well – a 3-2 decision. The Dodgers got in the win column yesterday with a 3-2 extra innings victory. Outfielder Carl Crawford, who has been battling back problems since the middle of spring training, became the 11th player to join the Dodgers’ disabled list on Saturday. Scott Van Slyke, Crawford’s primary replacement, left Saturday’s game with lower back tightness and is listed as day-to-day. The Giants have no players on the disabled list, and they locked in another key part of their infield Saturday as first baseman Brandon Belt signed a six-year, $79 million contract extension.
Pitchers: Dodgers – Scott Kazmir (1-0, 0.00 ERA) | Giants – Johnny Cueto (1-0, 1.29)
Scott Kazmir, who will start for L.A. today, was one of the pitchers who shut down the Padres in the opening series. Kazmir pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in the 3-0 victory. Belt has homered twice in six at-bats against Kazmir, who is 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA in two career starts against the Giants.
Johnny Cueto made his Giants debut on opening day in Milwaukee and beat the Brewers 2-1 behind seven innings of one-run ball. Chase Utley is 9-for-21 with a home run against Cueto, who is 2-5 with a 2.79 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers.
Both pitchers had success in their first games, but now they face much better lineups. I believe both of these lineups will get some hits and runs off these two guys and go over the total.
