The Chicago Cubs continued to roll last night thanks to 3 more home runs and another strong outing from Jake Arrieta. Kyle Schwarber, Miguel Montero, and Starlin Castro all went deep last night and the Cubs held of San Francisco 8-5. They put more distance between themselves and the Giants in the Wild Card race, which may be over in a few weeks. We have always seen the Wild Card come down to the last few days and beyond, but in the National League this year, we might see a runaway. The Cubs hold a 7.5 game lead for the final spot. The Giants are more focused on winning the National League West right now. They are 2.5 games behind the Dodgers. The Giants have now lost 3 in a row and 5 of 6 overall. Jake Peavy will try and turn things around for himself and his team tonight. In his last 3 outings he has an ERA of 5.94.
Kyle Hendricks has been the worst of the rotation for the Cubs this year and he hasn’t pitched well lately either. His ERA in his last 3 starts is 7.24 and those were against light hitting teams. With the way the Cubs offense has been clicking and the fact that we have struggling pitchers tonight suggests a high scoring affair.
I think we’ll take that bet. The over right now is posted at 7. After last night’s score-fest I’m taking it.
