Cowboys vs Giants Preview & Free Pick [Week 9]

Dallas (4-3) at NY Giants (2-6)
When: Monday, November 4th, 2019
Where: MetLife Stadium,
East Rutherford, NJ
Time: 8:15 ET | TV: ESPN
Opening Odds: Dallas -8/47

The Dallas Cowboys needed some momentum going into their bye week and got just that when they thrashed the Philadelphia Eagles on October 20th to maintain their slim lead in the NFC East. The Cowboys get back on the field for their second of three prime time games in a row when they visit the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Dallas had lost three in a row before the 37-10 win over the Eagles, including a loss to the New York Jets at the very stadium they will play in Monday. This team has Super Bowl aspirations, so if the Cowboys were to miss the playoffs or perhaps flame out early then head coach Jason Garrett may not be back in 2020. Owner Jerry Jones is known to covet Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley and even Urban Meyer has gone on record saying he would have to consider the Cowboys job if offered. Not much was expected from the Giants this season and it has been a bumpy ride for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones since a terrific first game. He did rebound nicely on Sunday in New York’s 31-26 loss at Detroit – their fourth in a row – and the Giants don’t get a bye until after next week’s game against the Jets. Dallas is looking for its third straight season sweep of the Giants after an easy 35-17 home win in Week 1. Dak Prescott was brilliant in throwing for 405 yards and four touchdowns, while Michael Gallup (158) and Amari Cooper (106) each had 100-yard receiving days. Eli Manning was still the Giants’ QB then and threw for 306 yards and a score. The Cowboys have covered five straight meetings and the under is 5-2 in the previous seven.

Dallas’ defense forced fumbles on the Eagles’ first two drives, and the offense turned them both into touchdowns. Dallas had been the NFL’s only team yet to start a possession inside opposing territory but did so four times vs. Philadelphia. While Dallas is averaging an NFL-high 437.9 yards on offense, its defense is permitting a league eighth-best 324.9 yards and surrendering just 17.7 points per contest. The Cowboys seem to be a lock when Ezekiel Elliott rushes for at least 100 yards, and he had 22 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles. Cooper was in doubt due to injury but had five catches for 106 yards. He has been banged up all season so the bye came at a perfect time for Cooper. Dallas is 4-10 ATS in its past 14 Monday games. The Cowboys will be home next Sunday night to take on the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones broke out of a slump in throwing for 322 yards and four scores with no interceptions in the loss to Detroit last week and Darius Slayton had two catches and both were touchdowns. Top receiver Sterling Shepard missed his third game in a row due to a concussion and isn’t expected for this one. The team also made a trade Monday, landing defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the Jets. That’s the first-ever trade between the franchises. New York’s 28th-ranked defense has recorded a turnover in 14 consecutive contests, tied with Pittsburgh for the longest active streak in the NFL. The Giants are 1-5 ATS in their past six at home.

The Cowboys have been a different team on the road, struggling to a 1-2 record and couldn’t even beat the Jets at this stadium a few weeks ago. The Giants aren’t very good, but that doesn’t mean they’ll automatically lose this game. I think New York will generate enough offense to keep this one close.
