The Dallas Cowboys will look to bounce back from a humiliating loss when they travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. Ezekiel Elliott was held to just eight yards on nine carries, forcing Dak Prescott to throw the ball 50 times in Dallas’ 42-17 loss at Denver in Week 2. Elliott also drew the ire of some fans when he was shown with hands on hips and walking in the other direction on one interception while remaining on the ground on another. Meanwhile, Arizona came back from an opening week loss in Detroit to slog through a 16-13 win over lowly Indianapolis in Week 2 as the offense continues to struggle. The Cardinals will be happy to be playing at home for the first time since an August 16th preseason game. These two teams also met in the Hall of Fame Game back in August with Dallas pulling out a 20-18 win, but none of the regular starters even saw the field.

Prescott’s 89 pass attempts already this season have him trailing only Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers (92) as the Cowboys will look to get Elliott going again like last season. Tight end Jason Witten has been the primary beneficiary of the pass-happy Cowboys, grabbing and NFL-leading 17 receptions through two games and his two receiving scores are tied for second best in the league. Dez Bryant found the end zone last week and scored in each of his last two meetings with Arizona, although the wideout is expected to be shadowed throughout Monday’s game by All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson. Orlando Scandrick is on pace to return after a one-game absence because of a broken left hand, which is good news for Arizona as fellow cornerback Nolan Carroll remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Dallas will get two home games coming up (Rams, Packers) before heading into their bye.

Maybe coming back home will benefit the aging Palmer, who has thrown just two touchdowns against four interceptions this season and is coming off being sacked four times in Arizona’s win over Indianapolis. Wide receiver J.J. Nelson had a break-out game versus the Colts, hauling in five catches for 120 yards with a touchdown en route to being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It’s no secret to opposing defenses the Cardinals are going to the air more than ever now that versatile running back David Johnson is out. Veteran Chris Johnson, who showed promise with 11 carries for 44 yards last week, is expected to receive a bigger workload. With 97 receiving yards, Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald would pass Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison (14,580) for the eighth-most in NFL history.

Dallas has too good of a team to lose twice in a row. The Cardinals look old and slow and may be a bit overrated heading into this season. Look for Elliott to take pressure off Prescott with a big bounce-back game and for Dallas to roll.
