The Dallas Cowboys will be playing their third game of the preseason when they host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 preseason action on Saturday night at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys will enter the contest with a 1-1 record after winning the Hall of Fame Game over Arizona, then dropping a 13-10 decision at the Los Angeles Rams last week. The Colts were embarrassed at home last week 24-10 to the Detroit Lions. The last time these two teams met was three years ago with Dallas winning 42-7. Reports out of Dallas say Quarterback Dak Prescott will see action in this game after sitting out last week, and Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck (off season shoulder surgery) is questionable.
The Colts rested most of their starters in the blowout loss to the Lions. Backup quarterback Scott Tolzien saw limited snaps, while undrafted QB’s Stephen Morris and Phillip Walker shared the majority of the action. Morris was the more effective one, completing 13-of-20 passes for 94 yards. The only touchdown came from a 1-yard plunge by Troymaine Pope as time expired. On a positive side, WR Fred Brown turned in a strong performance with 4 catches for 53 yards. The undrafted wide receiver is in a fight for a roster spot, as the Colts already have a deep receiving corps that includes TY Hilton, Donte Moncrief, and Phillip Dorsett. The Colts were 10th overall in total offense (364.4) and tied for 5th in passing (262.6) last season behind Luck. The Colts will be careful with their franchise quarterback this August, with very limited play, after coming off shoulder surgery this off season. First round Malik Hooker (safety) looked good with 4 tackles vs. Lions, but was hurt in practice (shoulder) this week and was held out of practice.
NFL LAST MAN STANDING CONTEST – WIN UP TO $5,000!
Not many of the Cowboys’ stars took the field last week in Los Angeles, but that could change this week. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Dez Bryant all sat out. Prescott told a local radio station in Dallas that he’ll be on the field this Saturday. The second year pro out of Mississippi State was sensational in his rookie season, throwing for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. Head Coach Jason Garrett has stated he is still unsure Ezekiel Elliott will dress at all this preseason, after being handed a six game suspension by the NFL (currently under appeal). He is eligible to play in exhibition games and it makes the most sense for that time to be at home. Elliott led the league in rushing with 1,631 yards in 2016 while the Cowboys outperformed expectations last season with a 13-win campaign. It will be a challenge this year to get back to that win total, but there are always high expectations in Dallas.

I don’t like to lay a lot of points in preseason games, but this Colts roster is weak and has no depth. Luck is their whole team and he won’t see much action tonight if any. I expect Dallas to cruise.
Pick: Cowboys -5.5
