Two teams that are expected to have really strong seasons will battle it out in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason schedule when the Seattle Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night. Seattle comes in undefeated while the Chiefs have split their first two games, winning on the road last week in Cincinnati 30-12. The Chiefs hold a 33-18 lifetime advantage against the Seahawks during the regular season with most of those contests taking place when Seattle was in the AFC West with K.C. They haven’t met since November of the 2014 season with the Chiefs coming away with a 24-20 win.
Some fans in Kansas City seem to think there’s a quarterback controversy between incumbent Alex Smith and first round pick Patrick Mahomes II. Yes, Mahomes has played very well in the first two weeks, going 17-of-23 in passing for 137 yards and three touchdowns, but even head coach Andy Reid insists the starter’s job belongs to Smith come regular season. I completely agree here. Smith has done nothing to lose his job. The Chiefs running game has taken over the offense this preseason, racking up 223 yards against the Bengals with Charcandrick West leading the way with 113 yards on only seven carries. Rookie Kareen Hunt recorded 40 yards on eight carries and will be given another opportunity against a tough Seahawks run defense.

The Seahawks offense has also looked good thus far with Russell Wilson completing 13-of-18 passes for 206 yards and no interceptions in Seattle’s 20-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings last week. So far in the preseason, Wilson is 16-for-22 for 247 yards, and it may have found a new favorite target in undrafted free agent Kasen Williams out of Washington, Williams has caught 6 passes for 147 yards, and a touchdown and is making a bid for a regular spot on the 53-man roster. The Seahawks suffered a key loss against the Vikings as offensive tackle George Fant tore an ACL and will miss the entire 2017 season. Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll expects second-year player Rees Odhiambo would get a shot to replace Fant, or the team could also move Luke Joeckel over from left guard.

Seattle has been pretty good so far, but this Kansas City running depth will give them a big test. Kansas City’s top two quarterbacks give them the edge in this one as well. I’ll take the points.
