The Boston Celtics look to be the first road team to win a game in the series and at the same time, eliminate the Washington Wizards to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Home teams not only have won each of the first five games in this best-of-seven series, they haven’t even been close including Boston’s 123-101 win on Wednesday to take the 3-2 series lead. Star guard Isaiah Thomas took a backseat in the scoring department to Avery Bradley, who poured in a playoff career-high 29 points, while Thomas dished out nine assists to go with his 18 points. Al Horford added 19 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Boston led by as many as 26 points by spreading the floor and knocking down 16 three-pointers. Bradley went 12-of-19 from the floor in the win after totaling 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting in Games 3 and 4. Horford is shooting 69.4% from the floor and 58.8% from 3-point range in the series.

Washington scored the first four points in Game 5, but let Boston go on a 16-0 run and the Wizards never recovered. John Wall had 21 points for the Wizards, who haven’t won a playoff game in Boston since 1982. Washington used a 22-0 run in Game 3 and a 26-0 spurt in Game 4 to create separation in a pair of home wins but failed to get the defensive stops that led to those runs in Game 5. Washington had all the momentum going into Game 5 after winning the previous two games by a total of 46 points but ended up shooting 38.5% from the floor in Game 5 while allowing Boston to shoot 52.9%. Shooting guards Bradley Beal and Bojan Bogdanovic combined to go 8-of-26 from the floor including 1-of-8 from downtown in the loss. Wall handed out four assists in Game 5 – his lowest total of the postseason. Kelly Oubre, Jr. scored 13 points off the bench in 19 minutes, but was just 1-of-5 from beyond the arc.

It’s really hard not to take the home team again in this one. Every game has been a blowout. When Wall and Beal get going, they’re hard to stop. I think they come up big again and send this back to Boston for a Game 7, while Cleveland stays home and rests some more.
