The Cleveland Cavaliers will look to stay hot when they visit Staples Center on Saturday to take on the Los Angeles Clippers. Cleveland started the month of March off with four losses in five games, but have since turned it around with three victories in their last four. Cleveland was impressive with a 128-96 route of Detroit on Tuesday, which it followed with a 91-83 win over the Utah Jazz on Thursday as Kevin Love returned to the lineup and the team avoided serious injuries to two other players. Cleveland lost point guard Kyrie Irving (knee) and swingman Iman Shumpert (shoulder) in Thursday’s win, but neither injury is considered serious and both players are day-to-day. Sharpshooter Kyle Korver is still sidelined with a foot injury, but is expected back soon. LeBron James, who recorded a triple-double in four of his first seven games this month, poured in 33 points on 13-of-20 shooting Thursday. J.R. Smith is 7-of-12 from 3-point range in the last two games after going 4-of-19 in the previous three.

The Clippers are battling Oklahoma City and Memphis for the fifth seed in the Western Conference with the three teams separated by just one game entering Friday’s action. Neither team wants to land on the seven spot, which would mean a date with either San Antonio or Golden State in the first round of the playoffs. L.A. suffered their third consecutive loss on Thursday in a 129-114 setback to the Denver Nuggets. Los Angeles did not have its full squad available on Thursday, either, as the team elected to keep center DeAndre Jordan and power forward Blake Griffin home to rest. Both players will be available on Saturday as the Clippers kick off a closing stretch that includes nine of the final 13 games at home. Point guard Chris Paul recorded 18 points and 14 assists on Thursday to snap a string of eight straight games without a double-double. Guard J.J. Redick led the team with 23 points in a 113-94 win at Cleveland on December 1st – the only meeting of the season thus far.

These teams seem to be going in different directions, but the Clippers should have a healthier squad for this contest. The Cavaliers have lost four of their last six road contests while the Clippers have won two of their last three at home. I think the Clippers win outright tonight.
Pick: Clippers (no line yet)
