The Cleveland Cavaliers are making this postseason look too easy and can take the first two games in Boston from the Celtics when they meet Friday night. LeBron James embarrassed every defender Boston threw at him and Cleveland picked up where it left off following a long layoff, rolling to a 117-104 victory in Game 1 on Wednesday night. James had 38 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, while Kevin Love added a playoff career-high 32 points to go along with his 12 rebounds. The Cavaliers improved to 9-0 in the first three rounds of the playoffs. They opened 10-0 last season en route to their first NBA title. James scored at will in the first half as the Cavs built a 26-point lead and never looked back. Love averaged a quiet 13.8 points in the first two rounds, the broke out against Boston, a team that knocked him out of the 2015 playoffs when he dislocated his shoulder. Love opened the floor for James by burying outside jumpers and forcing Boston to leave defenders 1-on-1 with James. Tristan Thompson recorded a career playoff-best 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting.

Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder led the Celtics with 21 points each but the Celtics, who were coming off a Game 7 victory over Washington on Monday, missed 11 of their first 14 shots. Star guard Isiah Thomas was limited to just 17 points and knew who the better team was on Wednesday. “They were the better team tonight. They hit us first. They were more physical,” Thomas said. “We can’t let that happen again.” It was the fourth time in the past six games Thomas scored fewer than 20 points. As the game got away from Boston, rookie forward Jaylen Brown made a case for more time in the series by producing 10 points (on 5-of-7 shooting) and nine rebounds in 20 minutes and going toe-to-toe with James after more experienced Celtics were exposed. Backup center Kelly Olynyk scored just two points in the opener after scoring a playoff career-high 26 in the final game of the series against the Wizards on Monday.

Game 1 is where Boston had the best chance to win a game in this series. They just don’t have enough to compete with Cleveland. The long layoff had no effect on Cleveland other than giving them more energy. I’ll give Boston a slightly better chance in this one, but the Cavs will win outright.
Pick: Celtics +5.5
