Cardinals vs Brewers Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [6/24/18]

St Louis (39-36) at Milwaukee (45-31)
When: Sunday, June 24th 2018
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI
Time: 2:10 ET | TV: FS Midwest, FS Wisconsin
Opening Odds: Milwaukee -123/8.5

The St. Louis Cardinals continued to struggle offensively, but managed to pull out a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday and will aim for a four-game series split on Sunday afternoon. St. Louis has dropped eight of its last 11 overall and the offense managed only four hits Saturday despite the victory. The Cardinals have not scored more than three runs in any of the last four games but catcher Yadier Molina has a pair of home runs in two of the past four games. Outfielder Tommy Pham is one of the slumping St. Louis bats, going 0-for-14 with eight strikeouts in his past four games. St. Louis remains 5.5 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central, who have limited opponents to three or fewer runs in four straight games and eight the last 10. Milwaukee could be without outfielder Lorenzo Cain, who left Saturday’s game due to groin tightness. Milwaukee give the ball to veteran Jhoulys Chacin against Cardinals righty Luke Weaver on Sunday.

Pitchers: Cardinals – Luke Weaver (3-6, 4.69 ERA) | Brewers – Jhoulys Chacin (6-2, 3.18)

Weaver hasn’t recorded a win in his last seven attempts and hasn’t gone past six innings in any of his last five. He was touched for four runs on six hits and four walks over five innings without factoring in the decision against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Weaver took the loss at Milwaukee on May 28th, giving up four runs – two earned – across four innings.

Chacin has pitched well all season, but suffered a loss at Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing one run and six hits over 6.1 innings but could not get any run support in a game the Brewers went on to lose 1-0. Chacin has surrendered one run or less in three of his last four outings and five of seven. He made two starts against the Cardinals in April and allowed a total of nine runs – six earned – over 10.1 innings.

The only one swinging a hot bat for St. Louis is Molina, and he may get the customary Sunday afternoon off. Even if he plays, the Cardinals are overmatched here with Chacin against Weaver. Look for the Brewers to start another winning streak.

Pick: Brewers -125
