The red-hot Minnesota Twins were cooled-off a bit by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday to snap their six-game winning streak, but will try and rebound to split their two-game interleague series on Tuesday. Minnesota had scored seven runs or more in five straight games before they struck out 13 times in the 5-4 setback Monday. Jonathan Schoop, C.J. Cron and Miguel Sano all K’d three times as the Twins lost for just the second time in 13 games. Byron Buxton blasted a three-run homer and Max Kepler went 2-for-4 for his sixth straight multi-hit performance and is riding a nine-game hitting streak while going 18-for-38 with four homers and 14 RBIs during that span. The Brewers have now won back-to-back games after losing five of seven and begin their six-game road trip on a high-note. Orlando Arcia smashed a two-run homer in the eighth inning while Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich drove in runs with sacrifice flies. Yelich, leads the majors with 21 homers but six of his last seven have been with the bases empty. Tuesday’s game will feature two pitchers who are a combined 12-1 on the season in Zach Davies and Martin Perez.
Pitchers: Brewers – Zach Davies (5-0, 2.43 ERA) | Twins – Martin Perez (7-1, 2.95)
Davies is an All-Star candidate despite coming off his worst outing to date when he allowed six runs and six hits in three innings of a no-decision against Cincinnati. Davies allowed three runs in his previous outing to Philadelphia – the first time all season he surrendered more than two. He has one start against Minnesota on his resume and it wasn’t good. Davies allowed seven runs – six earned – and 11 hits in 5.2 innings back in 2017.

Perez beat the Los Angeles Angels – as we predicted – in his latest outing but received a ton of run support to make his job easier. The Twins routed L.A. 16-7 last Thursday and Perez gave up two runs and six hits over five innings and left after 88 pitches. Perez also lost his only career start against tonight’s opponent when he was with the Texas Rangers back in 2016. He surrendered eight runs and nine hits in 6.2 innings.
This is a great pitching matchup but Davies’ last two outings were his worst and might not have a ton of confidence coming in to face this fierce Minnesota lineup. Perez has been outstanding and all the Twins do when he pitches is hit. Minnesota is 6-2 when he starts and they average 8.12 runs a game for him. Look for the Twins to rebound tonight.
